Where to Get Moving Boxes in Bahrain: Buy Them or Find Them Free
Every move runs on boxes, and it always takes more of them than you expect. This guide covers where to buy new moving boxes in Bahrain, where to find good used ones for free, how to tell a sound box from a tired one, and which jobs are still worth a new box.

How many boxes will you need?
Moving guides in the big markets put an average household move at 50 to 100 boxes, and buying every one of them new can swallow a real chunk of the moving budget before you have bought a single roll of tape. The good news is that Bahrain is full of boxes. Some are worth paying for, and many are free for the asking once you know which doors to knock on.
Plan for more than feels reasonable. The 50-to-100-box average covers a typical family home. A studio needs far fewer, and a villa can go past the top of the range.
Just as important as the count is the size discipline: heavy things go in small boxes, light bulky things go in big ones. A large box full of books is a back injury waiting at the bottom of the stairs, and small boxes physically stop you from overpacking.
| Box | Best for |
|---|---|
| Small | Books, tools, tinned food, and other heavy, compact items |
| Medium | Kitchen items, toys, and most general household goods |
| Large | Bedding, pillows, linens, and light bulky items |
| Wardrobe box (with hanging bar) | Clothes straight from the closet, no folding |
| File box | Papers, records, and documents |
| Dish pack (with dividers) | Glasses, cups, and bottles |
| TV box | Flat screens, sold in sizes up to 70 inches |
| Picture or mirror box | Framed art and mirrors |
Where to buy moving boxes in Bahrain
As a price reference: in the US cities the big moving guides cover, standard new boxes run from about $1 for a small box to $9 for the largest, roughly BD 0.4 to BD 3.4, as of those guides' late-2025 updates. Specialty boxes like wardrobe and TV boxes cost several times more than plain ones everywhere. Treat that as a sense of scale. As it turns out, the Bahrain prices below sit inside roughly the same range, so it is a fair rule of thumb.
Moving companies that sell and deliver boxes
The most visible verified box sellers in Bahrain right now are the movers themselves. As of July 2026, from each company's own published information:
- US Movers Bahrain advertises box delivery: packing boxes and materials delivered to your location anywhere in Bahrain.
- Star Movers Bahrain sells boxes and packing materials, with box delivery among its services.
- NiNi Movers advertises packing supplies in Bahrain: moving boxes, bubble wrap, and tape.
You do not have to book a full move to ask about boxes, and if you are hiring a crew anyway, ask for boxes in the same quote. Contact details for all three are in our movers guide.
Carton and packing-supply sellers
For plain new cardboard in household quantities, the most straightforward option in Bahrain is Jarir Bookstore, which lists corrugated shipping boxes online with prices on the shelf. As of July 2026, and inclusive of VAT:
| Box size | Price |
|---|---|
| 320 x 240 x 100 mm | BD 0.55 |
| 256 x 256 x 204 mm | BD 0.75 |
| 29.2 x 29.2 x 29 cm | BD 0.95 |
| 45.2 x 45.2 x 40 cm | BD 1.60 |
| 60.2 x 45.2 x 60 cm | BD 2.09 |
Masking tape sits alongside them at BD 0.60 a roll. Boxes can be delivered or collected from a showroom, which matters when you realise mid-pack that you are ten boxes short.
Beyond the retail shelf, Bahrain has a real corrugated-box industry, and buying closer to the source pays off once you need boxes by the dozen:
- Bahrain Pack, part of United Paper Industries BSC, is the largest corrugated box manufacturer in the country, running from the Sitra Industrial Park since 1993. It makes regular style cartons in a range of board thicknesses. Phone +973 17732626.
- Season International (SITCO) distributes industrial packaging across Bahrain: cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, corrugated paper, packing tapes, air bubble sheet, and foam.
- The Bahrain Chamber's business directory lists eight carton-box companies on the island, which is the fastest way to find one near you. Alongside Bahrain Pack it names Bahrain Wholesale in Tubli, Box Makers in Hidd, City Pack in Diraz, Dawani Group Holding in Manama, Manama Packaging Industry in Hidd, Techno Pack Bahrain, and The Shape Factory in Tubli.
One honest caveat: manufacturers and industrial distributors are set up for businesses buying pallets, not for one household buying thirty boxes. Call and ask about a small order before you drive out. All of the above is as published in July 2026.
What a dedicated box seller offers over scavenged cardboard: boxes sold in bundles of one size, which stack evenly in the truck and in a storage unit; kits sized by the number of rooms, with tape and packing paper included; and proper moving boxes made to a rated crush strength rather than whatever the original shipment needed.
Hardware shops and big retail stores
In the winning guides' markets, home-improvement chains and big general retailers are the standard budget option, selling plain moving boxes for a dollar or two each alongside tape, bubble wrap, and moving blankets. Bahrain's big retailers work differently, and it is worth knowing before you drive to one: what they stock is reusable plastic and fabric storage boxes, not cardboard moving cartons. As of July 2026:
- Lulu Hypermarket lists a 55 litre plastic home storage box at BHD 3.000.
- Cosmoplast Bahrain, which sells online with free delivery over BHD 20, runs a full ladder of clear plastic boxes with wheels and lockable lids: 22 litre at BHD 3.500, 33 litre at BHD 4.900, a 45 litre underbed box at BHD 6.900, 55 litre at BHD 7.900, 82 litre at BHD 11.900, and 132 litre at BHD 14.900. A small 15 litre lockbox is BHD 3.300, and the range tops out at BHD 29.900.
- noon Bahrain carries fabric and foldable storage bins in its storage boxes category, with a four-pack wardrobe organiser around BHD 5.90 and a six-pack of foldable blanket storage bags around BHD 6.99.
Do the arithmetic before you fill a trolley. At roughly BHD 3 to BHD 8 for a plastic box against BD 0.55 to BD 2.09 for a new carton, plastic is several times the price per box. It earns that back only when the box is going to be used again and again, or when the contents are going into long-term storage where you want a rigid, sealed, pest-proof container rather than cardboard. For the boxes that will be flattened a fortnight after the move, cardboard wins.
Storage facilities
In the US, self storage operators routinely sell boxes and packing supplies at the front desk, sized to match their units. It is a sensible place to buy them: the boxes are chosen to stack cleanly in the unit you have just rented, and you are already there.
Wadaya does the same. We sell packing supplies at the facility, moving boxes with carry handles, tape, and the other basics, so you can pick up what you need the day you rent or any day you visit. .
Where to find free moving boxes in Bahrain
Every shop on the island receives stock in cardboard, unpacks it, and flattens the boxes for disposal. Most are happy to hand them to someone who asks politely, because it saves them the work. The trick is knowing which shops have the good boxes, and when to turn up.
Supermarkets and cold stores
Grocery shops are the gold standard. They take deliveries daily, in sturdy boxes of every size. Produce boxes are the prize: apple boxes are thick and reinforced, ideal for dishes and glassware. Banana boxes are strong too, but they have large holes in the sides, so small items can escape through them.
Go in the morning, when the overnight delivery is being unpacked and the boxes have not yet been flattened, and ask the manager or a shelf stocker. Every chain and every branch handles its cardboard its own way, some hand boxes out gladly and some bale everything for recycling, so a polite ask at your nearest branch is the only way to know. Before taking any grocery box, check it for food stains, damp, and any sign of pests.
Bookshops and stationery shops
Book deliveries come in compact, dense, sturdy boxes, exactly what you want for books, papers, and heavy kitchen items. Their small size keeps the weight honest. Stationery and office-supply shops get paper cartons with lids and handles, which stack neatly and carry files well.
Pharmacies
Pharmacies take frequent deliveries in clean, medium-sized boxes. They are a good match for clothes, linens, and bathroom things, anywhere you care about the box being clean more than being huge.
Cafes and restaurants
Coffee shops receive beans, syrups, and cups in clean, sturdy boxes, and busier branches get several shipments a week, so there is a steady supply if you ask them to set boxes aside. Restaurant boxes work for pantry goods and cleaning supplies, but skip them for clothes and bedding: food smells soak into cardboard and travel with it.
Electronics and appliance shops
This is where the big boxes live. A refrigerator or washing machine box swallows an enormous amount of light, bulky stuff, and TV boxes are purpose-built for the one item everyone worries about. Shops sometimes keep appliance boxes for delivering display models, but it costs nothing to ask.
Online: Marketplace and community groups
People who have just moved want their box mountain gone. Search Facebook Marketplace for free moving boxes, watch the community buy-and-sell and giveaway groups, or post a wanted ad saying when and where you can collect. Respond quickly, because good box lots go fast, and time your search around the end of the month, when leases turn over and finished movers offload their supplies. For any pickup from a stranger, meet in a public spot and take someone with you.
Set your expectations honestly, though, because Bahrain's classifieds are thin on boxes on any given day. Checked on 30 July 2026:
- dubizzle Bahrain is the main local classifieds site, and a search for empty boxes returned three ads in total: a moving company offering free empty boxes as part of its service, a single iPhone box at BHD 5, and a year-old wanted ad from someone looking for boxes for a house move. Searching moving boxes mostly returns moving companies advertising from BHD 10, not boxes for sale.
- expatriates.com runs a Bahrain free items board. On the day it was checked it carried no free-box listing at all. The live posts were furniture, appliances, and a freezer offered for donation.
The lesson is not to give up on the classifieds but to use them the other way round. Do not wait for a free-box listing to appear. Post your own wanted ad, with your area and the dates you can collect, and spend the rest of your effort asking shops directly.
Your own deliveries, and people you know
If the move is a few weeks out, start hoarding. Every online order that arrives is a free box. Time bigger purchases for the pre-move window and keep everything. Ask friends, family, and colleagues to save their delivery boxes, and ask around your building at month-end, when someone else's move is ending just as yours begins. Break boxes down flat and store them under a bed until packing day. Three to four weeks of collecting is plenty. Start earlier and the boxes take over the house.
When to ask, and how
Mornings are best, just after deliveries are unpacked, and midweek beats the weekend rush. The ask itself is simple: you are moving soon, could you take any empty boxes they plan to throw out, and you are happy to come back at whatever time suits them. Thank them either way. Staff who were thanked once will often save the next batch for you.
How to spot a good used box
Free boxes are only a bargain if they survive the move. Check each one:
- Press the sides. A sound box feels firm. Soft, sagging cardboard has lost its strength.
- Check corners and edges for tears, crushing, and weak spots.
- Clean and dry only. Reject anything with stains, damp, strong smells, or any sign of pests.
- All four bottom flaps present and undamaged, or the box cannot close properly.
- Prefer double-walled boxes for anything heavy. Single-walled ones can be reinforced with extra tape across the bottom.
One Bahrain-specific rule: cardboard is only strong when it is dry, and Bahrain's humidity is not kind to it. A box that has sat outdoors, or in an unventilated garage through the humid months, will have gone soft even if it looks fine. Take the crisp, rigid boxes and leave the limp ones.
When it's worth buying new
The winning guides all land on the same split: free boxes for most of the house, bought boxes for the things that would hurt to lose.
- Fragile and valuable items. Dish packs with dividers, TV boxes, and picture boxes protect exactly the things ordinary cartons do not.
- Uniform stacking. Same-size new boxes stack tight and stable in a truck or a storage unit. A scavenged mix of sizes never stacks as well.
- Anything staying packed for a long time. For a long-distance move, or boxes going into storage between homes rather than straight to a new home, you want guaranteed strength. A used box can hide weak spots and wear from its first life, and a box that fails in month three of storage fails quietly, at the bottom of a stack.
- Your mover's terms. Some moving companies' damage cover has conditions about proper packing. If the crew is moving boxes you packed yourself, ask how that affects a claim before packing day.
Are your boxes headed into storage, not a new home? Pack them in sound boxes and give them a clean, secure room of their own. Wadaya Self Storage rents units by the month, and you keep the only key.
Free packing materials beyond boxes
The box hunt can supply the rest of the packing kit too:
- Newspaper for wrapping, from neighbours or your own recycling pile.
- Bubble wrap and foam peanuts from electronics shops and flower shops, which receive far more of it than they can reuse.
- Shredded paper from offices, which works as void fill.
- Moving blankets, which occasionally show up on the marketplaces from finished moves.
After the move: pass your boxes on
Once you have unpacked, your box mountain is someone else's answer to this exact page. List the boxes on Facebook Marketplace or the community groups, post a note in your building, or offer them to neighbours. At month-end they will go quickly.
Whatever nobody takes, flatten for recycling. Clean cardboard is one of the easiest materials to recycle in Bahrain, and you have a choice between dropping it off and having it collected. As listed by Recycle Points Bahrain, an island recycling directory, in July 2026:
- Public drop-off bins. Bahrain Contract Cleaning, now part of Masar, places recycling boxes around the island free of charge and takes cartons, paper, plastic, and styrofoam. Listed bin locations include Bahrain University in Sakhir, three points around Bab Al Bahrain, Salmaniya Park and Andalus Park in Gudaibiya, several roads in Juffair, Ras Al Rumman, East Riffa, Muharraq, Saar secondary school for girls, and Zallaq next to the Midway market. Masar can be reached on +973 38113333.
- Free collection for a big load. Falcon Waste Paper, based in Ma'ameer, collects paper and cartons across Bahrain and offers free collection for loads over 200 kg, which a whole-house move can easily reach. Phone 1770 0036 or 39657575.
- Household collection by appointment. E-Bin runs a Saturday collection for separated household recyclables, booked over WhatsApp on 34071010.
- Other collectors listed for paper and carton include Alfa Express in Manama and Nidukki.
Bin locations and phone numbers on directory sites do drift, so call before loading the car.
Frequently asked questions
The guides' working average is 50 to 100 boxes for a full household, with a studio well below that. Count on more small and medium boxes than large ones: heavy items must go in small boxes, and large boxes are only for light, bulky things.
Yes. As of July 2026, US Movers Bahrain advertises packing boxes and materials delivered anywhere in Bahrain, Star Movers Bahrain sells boxes and packing materials, and NiNi Movers advertises moving boxes, bubble wrap, and tape. If you are booking a crew anyway, ask for boxes in the same quote.
Mornings, just after deliveries have been unpacked and before the boxes are flattened, and midweek rather than the weekend. For free boxes from other movers, search at the end of the month, when leases turn over and people who have just finished moving are giving their boxes away.
Ask first. The bins behind a shop are the shop's property, and staff will almost always hand you better boxes than the bin holds anyway, straight from the morning delivery. A polite request costs nothing and often gets boxes saved for you.
Mostly, if you inspect them. Reject anything damp, stained, smelly, soft-sided, or showing signs of pests, and be stricter in Bahrain's humid months, when cardboard left in unconditioned space loses its strength. For fragile valuables, and for anything staying packed a long time, buy new instead.
