How you pack changes the size you need

Measure the big pieces first

Sofas, mattresses, cabinets, and appliances set the hard limits. Measure their width, depth, and height, and check they will fit through your lift or stairwell — and then through the unit door.

Stack to the ceiling

Every unit is 2.1 m tall and air-conditioned all year, so nothing bakes the way it does in a garage in August. Stack sturdy boxes of the same size, keep the heavy ones low, stand mattresses on their edge, and never balance furniture where it can fall.

Keep seasonal things by the door

Most homes here in Bahrain move the same items twice a year — blankets and majlis cushions out in winter, fans and the spare AC out in summer. Keep those near the door with an aisle to reach them, and put long-term boxes at the back. A unit packed wall to wall turns a ten-minute swap into an afternoon.

Before you choose a unit

    List every large item and estimate the number of packed boxes. Measure the pieces that cannot be dismantled, including the space they need for padding.

    Decide whether the unit is for long-term packing or regular access. Shelving and an aisle reduce packing density, but they make the space much easier to use.

  3. 03

    Choose the smallest band that works safely. If your requirement goes beyond 15 m² or involves pallets, staff activity, or frequent truck loading, you are looking at commercial premises rather than a storage unit.

Size questions

The small size band starts at 1.5 m². It suits boxes, luggage, records, seasonal belongings, and a few small furniture pieces.

It depends on the box size, what else is inside, and how safely the boxes stack. There is no honest single number: count your own boxes, measure one of them, and compare that against the floor sizes above.

Medium is the usual starting point for a bed, mattress, dresser, small sofa, and boxes. Measure the sofa and mattress before choosing.

A one-bedroom flat usually fits a medium unit; two to three bedrooms point to large. A room-by-room list still beats the bedroom count alone — appliances and bulky pieces are what push the size up.

Yes if you will visit often. An aisle takes space, but it stops you from unloading the whole unit whenever you need one box.

Yes. Safe stacking and shelving can add useful capacity, but floor area still matters for furniture and anything that cannot be stacked.

Small suits a compact archive or limited stock. Medium or large works better when you need shelving, order picking, or space for deliveries.

If you need more than 15 m², pallets, machinery, staff workspace, or frequent truck loading, compare commercial warehouse options instead of forcing the requirement into self-storage.
