Storage unit size guide — what fits in each size

Sizes are in square metres of floor area (m²), with real examples of what fits in each. The short version: a studio corner fits a small unit, a one-bedroom flat fits a medium, and a full family home needs a large. When in doubt, take the smaller size — units are about 2.1 m tall, so stacking high buys you more room than a bigger floor, and you can change size any month.

The sizes, one by one

Small (1.5–3 m²)

Holds the contents of a studio corner: boxes, a bicycle, and small furniture.

  • 15–30 boxes
  • A bicycle, sports equipment, or a couple of chairs
  • A small wardrobe or chest of drawers

Medium (3–10 m²)

Holds a one-bedroom apartment: bed, sofa, wardrobe, washing machine, and boxes.

  • A one-bedroom apartment's furniture
  • Large appliances
  • 20–40 boxes on top

Large (10–15 m²)

Holds a full two- or three-bedroom home, or business stock on racks.

  • A full family home's furniture
  • Business stock on shelving
  • Bulky equipment

Two tips before you choose

Stack to the ceiling: units are about 2.1 m tall, so the usable volume is far more than the floor area suggests.

Visiting often? Leave a small walkway inside and put what you need most near the door.
